THE TROST
HOW THE
TROST WORKS
Cannabis. Legal. Safe. Science-Backed.
We know what you’re thinking. This is how we make it all possible. If you’ve arrived here wondering whether what we do is actually legal, you’re asking exactly the right question. The Trost is built on transparency. This page explains the plant, the law, the licenses, and the process that ensures every order we ship is safe, verified, and compliant.
The Plant
India has known this plant for thousands of years.
Cannabis has been part of Indian culture, medicine, and religion since antiquity. It appears in Ayurvedic texts as “Vijaya”, meaning victory. The plant was regulated under British rule not because it was harmful, but because it was economically valuable.
It was only after India signed international narcotics treaties in the 20th century that cannabis came under heavy restriction through the NDPS Act, 1985. But that law has always recognised a distinction: the dangerous parts of the plant are restricted. Under NDPS the fruiting top / flower of the plant is banned. The leaf of the plant known as Vijaya in Ayurveda is recognised under Drugs and Cosmetics 1945 (D&C 1945).
The useful, non-intoxicating parts are not. The Trost was built on that distinction.

Hemp vs. Marijuana
Same species. Very different story.

Hemp and marijuana come from the same botanical family: Cannabis Sativa. But they are not the same thing. The difference lies entirely in one compound: THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), the molecule responsible for intoxication.
Hemp contains less than 0.3% THC. What hemp does contain in abundance is CBD (cannabidiol), a non-intoxicating compound with well-documented effects on sleep, anxiety, inflammation, and overall wellness.
What the Law Says
Here is exactly where the line is drawn.
The Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985 is India’s primary law governing cannabis. It is more nuanced than most people realise. It does not ban the entire cannabis plant. It restricts specific parts of it.
- Cannabis leaves (Vijaya)
- Hemp seeds
- Hemp stalk and fibre
- CBD oils, tinctures, and gummies derived from leaves
- Ayurvedic formulations under AYUSH license
- Cannabis flowers (ganja)
- Cannabis resin (charas or hashish)
- Extracts derived from flowers
- Recreational use or sale in any form
The distinction is straightforward. What comes from the leaf and seed is permitted. What comes from the flower and resin is not. Every product The Trost makes is derived exclusively from hemp leaves and seeds.
How We Are Authorised to Sell
We got every license.
Operating legally in this category in India requires navigating multiple regulatory bodies simultaneously. The Trost holds every license required to manufacture, sell, and distribute hemp-based Ayurvedic products across India.
AYUSH Manufacturing License
Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India

Licensed by the Ministry of AYUSH, the regulatory body for all Ayurvedic medicines in India.
Our AYUSH Manufacturing License authorises us to produce Ayurvedic formulations containing cannabis leaf extract (Vijaya) in full compliance with the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940, and Schedule T Good Manufacturing Practices. This is the most important certification we hold. It means our products are officially classified as Ayurvedic medicines, manufactured under government-mandated quality standards — not unregulated supplements.
Free Sale Certificate
State Licensing Authority
Our Free Sale Certificate confirms that our products are approved for unrestricted commercial sale within India and for exports. It is issued by the State Licensing Authority after confirming that our formulations meet all quality and safety requirements under Indian drug law.
This is the document that authorises our products to move freely through retail and e-commerce channels without restriction.
Excise License
State Excise Department
Cannabis-derived Ayurvedic medicines are classified as Schedule E-1 drugs under Indian law, which means they also fall under the jurisdiction of the State Excise Department.
Our excise license means the manufacture, storage, and movement of our products is monitored and approved by the excise authority — the same body that oversees all controlled substances in India. This layer of oversight is a mark of full compliance.
Schedule E-1 Compliance
Ministry of AYUSH / Drugs and Cosmetics Rules, 1945
All cannabis-based Ayurvedic products in India are categorised as Schedule E-1 drugs. This classification requires that they be manufactured under AYUSH oversight, sold with a valid prescription, and used under the guidance of a registered Ayurvedic practitioner.
Every Trost product carries the required Schedule E-1 label, along with a batch number and third-party lab test reference that you can verify independently.

Every product we manufacture is third-party tested for THC content. Every batch result is on file. Nothing leaves our facility without confirmation that THC levels are within legal limits.
The Process
Every order is reviewed by a certified doctor before it is shipped.
This is not a formality. It is how we ensure that every person who receives a Trost product is receiving something appropriate for them, dosed correctly, and accompanied by the right guidance. Our process reflects the requirement under Indian law that Schedule E-1 products be used under medical supervision, and our belief that wellness should never be handed over without care.
You Place Your Order
Browse our range of Gummies, Oils, Rollens, and herbal products. Select what feels right for you and place your order. At checkout, you will be asked to share basic health information. This is part of the process that keeps you safe.
A Certified Doctor Reviews Your Order
Our team of certified Ayurvedic doctors reviews every single order. They check your health details, confirm that the product you have selected is appropriate for you, and verify the dosage. If anything requires clarification, they will reach out to you directly. This step is not automated. A real doctor looks at every order.
Your Order Is Verified and Approved
Once the doctor has reviewed and approved your order, it is cleared for dispatch. The approval is documented against your order record. This step ensures that what we ship is medically appropriate for you, not just commercially available to you.
Your Order Is Packaged and Shipped
Your order is packaged discreetly and sent to your address. Every package includes dosage guidance and a reference to your doctor’s recommendation. All products leave our facility with batch numbers and lab certificates that you can verify independently.
“We are not a supplement store. We are a licensed Ayurvedic wellness brand with a doctor behind every order.”
You are in safe hands.
Here is why.
The hemp plant has always had a legal home in India. The law has always distinguished between the leaf and the flower, between wellness and intoxication. The Trost was built to operate squarely within that legal space, and to make it accessible to people who deserve safe, science-backed relief.
- We hold every license required by the AYUSH Ministry, the State Licensing Authority, and the Excise Department.
- Every product we make comes from hemp leaves and seeds, with THC levels tested and verified.

You are not buying a grey-area product. You are buying a licensed Ayurvedic medicine, made by a brand that chose to do this the right way.
The Trost products are classified as Schedule E-1 Ayurvedic medicines under the Drugs and Cosmetics Rules, 1945. They are manufactured under AYUSH license and are intended for use under medical supervision. Please consult a doctor before use if you have any pre-existing health conditions.
